Developmental Program

Centre Soccer’s Developmental Program is designed to help all players reach their potential in a fun, safe environment that takes into consideration what stage a player is at developmentally. The Developmental Program is for players at all ability levels. Players are ability grouped for training and then divide up evenly on teams for games. Focus is on technical development and basic tactical principles are introduced. Players will play in games vs other CSA teams as well as a Festival Date with other Mt. District Clubs. Players are often identified from the developmental program to make CSA's Travel teams.

WHY ABILITY GROUP FOR TRAINING? If an activity dose not fit the needs of the player, the player will show either frustration or boredom, depending on if the exercise is too easy or too difficult. By ability grouping we are able to make sure that the training activities are neither. Children grow at different rates, even within the same age groups, some are shorter or taller, some have better balance, are stronger, etc. If a player is new to the game, they can learn in a safe, fun environment. If a player has been playing for years and needs to be challenged they will be. All players are then able to find success and learn in the activities within their groups.
For more look up *The “Slanty Line” concept. Built on the belief that with every activity, each participant should have the opportunity to participate at their own ability level.

Understanding where your child is developmentally is important in creating the right soccer environment for your child. Centre Soccer's programs are designed to meet the needs of players based on where they are.Talent takes time. Players develop at different rates, hit puberty at different times, possess different work ethics, have a variety of motivations and receive different levels of instruction. Player development is a long process. Our goal is to give all players the opportunity to reach their potential.

  U8 Developmental Program

The U8 Developmental Program is for players that have played in our FUNdamental program and are ready for a more structured training environment. Players are between Stages and some maybe looking for more formal training environment. Coaches are provided with a curriculum to ensure all players are learning the skills and principles of the game.
Training to Game Ratio 3 to 1.

From ages 6-9 in boys and 6-8 in girls, children need to participate in a variety of well-structured activities that develop basic skills. However, activities and programs need to maintain a focus on fun, and formal competition should only be minimally introduced

   U9|10 Developmental Program
  &  U11|12 Developmental Program

The Developmental Program at these ages is for players who are looking to learn the skills of the game. Players at these ages are ready for a more structured training environment and and are starting to understand the principles of the game. Coaches are provided with a curriculum to ensure that we are building on previous years. Training to Game Ratio 3 to 1.

PLEASE NOTE:  While we do our best to offer a girls only group, this option will only be available if there is enough interest. If there are not enough registrants for the girls only group, all players will be combined into the coed group.

From ages 8-11 in girls and 9-12 in boys, to the onset of the growth spurt (usually around the ages of 11-12), children are ready to begin training according to more formalized methods, but the emphasis should still be on general sports skills suitable to a number of activities. While it is often tempting to over-develop “talent” at this age through excessive single sport training and competition (as well as early positioning in team sports), this can be very detrimental to later stages of development if the child is playing a late specialization sport: it promotes one-sided physical, technical, and tactical development and increases the likelihood of injury and burnout.

   MS/HS Recreation Program

The Developmental Program for players at this age is for players who are looking to continue to improve their skills and just enjoy playing. At these ages most serious soccer players will have move on to Travel teams. The Developmental Program will continue to teach and allow players opportunities to play the game in a variety of formats. Coaches are provided with a curriculum to ensure that we are building on previous years. Training to Game Ratio 1 to 1. For more information on MS/HS Rec click here.

Depending on the sport, for females ages 15-21+/- and males ages 16-23+/-, this is where things get “serious.” They can either choose to specialize in one sport and pursue a competitive stream, or they can continue participating at a recreational level and thereby enter the Active for Life stage. In the competitive stream, high volume and high intensity training begins to occur year-round.
